Yudo is not just about taking a bath. As there are specific processes in tea ceremonies and ikebana, there are steps that follow tradition, carrying value in each process. In Yudo, you interact with ‘hot water’, ‘the self’ and ‘others’.

  • 1. GA-SHOW

    At first, express your gratitude for hot water facing bathing bucket.Everything starts from this sense of gratitude.

  • 2. Refreshing yourself with water

    Hydrate yourself with a glass of water.It is very important because it will prevent dehydration from bathing.

  • 3. Hiding clothes

    After taking off your clothes, cover them with a wrap called FUROSHIKI.It is “Kinu-Kakushi” meaning hiding clothes

  • 4. Temperature adjustment

    Cleanse your body with hot water using bathing bucket three times.At the third time, put your towel into bathing bucket, wring it dry and put it on your head.Don’t forget to check the water temperature.Adjust water temperature.

  • 5. Absorb in hot water

    Shut out idle thoughts and concentrate on hot water.Facing yourself, you can free your mind from all other thoughts.It is called “ Sen-Shin”.

  • 6. Wash off dirt

    If you begin perspiring, get off from bath tub and bath yourself.It is called “Kori” meaning washing off dirt

  • 7. Consideration for your neighbor

    After the last Kori, wring the towel dry and wipe your body.Holding bathing bucket with your left hand, wash it with your right hand.Knock the reversed bucket with Hibiki-Ishi; the echoing rock, only once and dry it.It is a preparation for someone to enjoy bathing after you.It is called “Kin-ryo”; consideration for youreneighbor.It is a preparation for someone to enjoy bathing after you.Literally, it is to show consideration for neighbor. Here, neighbor means someone to enjoy bathing next.

    After bathing, you can feel breeze and be back to the real world.Here you can feel the slightest breeze that you did not feel before.Now, enjoy shaved ice with flavored sweet syrup.
